The 99 Mega Kodas: what they are and why not 100
Out of 10,000 Kodas, only 99 are Megas. They are not simply regular Kodas with unusually rare traits — Megas are a distinct group within the collection, with unique visual identities and trait rules that separate them from the other 9,901. The number itself is worth a word: Mega Kodas are often described as a set of 100, but the underlying metadata contains 99. Mr. Deeds uses the collection data itself, so 99 is the number used throughout this site.
What makes a Koda a Mega
Every Mega's Head is one-of-one — its value occurs on exactly one Koda in the entire collection. Cores are nearly as strict: 98 distinct values across the 99 Megas, with a single Core value ("Midnight") shared by exactly two of them — and no regular Koda carries any Mega Head or Core, and no two Megas share the same Head-and-Core pair. That makes the basic identity of every Mega genuinely unrepeatable.
Their other visual traits work differently. Eyes, Weapon and Clothing values associated with Megas can also appear on regular Kodas. This is the source of what collectors usually call "Mega traits." The distinction matters:
- A Mega Koda is a Mega.
- A regular Koda can have Mega-associated traits.
- Having Mega traits does not turn a regular Koda into a Mega.
Mr. Deeds keeps those two ideas separate.
Why 99 instead of 100
You'll often see references to 100 Mega Kodas. When the Koda metadata is actually counted, however, only 99 Kodas satisfy the Mega classification used by the collection data. Rather than force the data to agree with the commonly repeated number, Mr. Deeds publishes what the metadata shows: 99. The full Mega audit lists all 99 token ids and the rule used to classify them, so the result can be independently checked.
Only 88 Megas are currently tradable
The collection contains 99 Megas, but that doesn't mean 99 can be bought as standalone Kodas. At the current August 2026 audit, 11 Megas remain locked inside original Otherdeeds that have never migrated (how locking works). That leaves 88 standalone Mega Kodas in tradable supply.
A locked Mega still exists. Its traits are still visible and it still belongs to the 99-Mega population. It simply cannot be listed or transferred as a standalone Koda until the deed containing it is migrated. When one of those deeds eventually migrates, another Mega enters standalone supply — which is why total supply and tradable supply are two different numbers, and why the Koda section quotes listed counts against tradable supply.
Mega traits on regular Kodas
Mega-associated Eyes, Weapon and Clothing values are not exclusive to Megas. Among the 9,901 regular Kodas:
- 4,326 carry one Mega-associated trait value
- 1,311 carry two
- 110 carry all three
- 4,154 carry none
Those 110 triple-Mega-trait regulars are particularly interesting from a trait-combination standpoint, but they are still regular Kodas — their Head and Core do not satisfy the Mega definition. It's a good example of why Koda rarity works better as a set of traits than as a single label: a Koda can be rare for several different reasons.
Megas and KodaPendants
The KodaPendant cuts across the Mega population rather than defining it: 30 of the 99 Megas carry one, so a Koda can simultaneously belong to two independently scarce groups. And because none of the currently locked Kodas carries a pendant, all 30 pendant Megas are already part of the standalone tradable supply.
How to verify a Mega
You don't need to rely on a marketplace description. Every Koda page on Mr. Deeds shows whether the Koda is a Mega, its complete trait set, how many Kodas share each trait value, whether it carries Mega-associated traits, whether it has a KodaPendant, and whether it is currently locked inside a deed. If someone describes a regular Koda as having "three Mega traits," you can verify all three individually. If someone describes a Koda as a Mega, you can verify that too. The point isn't to replace judgment — it's to make the underlying facts easy to check. For prices, the Koda market page publishes recorded Mega prints and cohort medians, each with its sample size.
